ANCA VASILIU lives and works in Paris, carrying on her research projects within the CNRS (Centre Léon Robin de Recherches sur la pensée antique, in connection with Paris IV Sorbonne and ENS-Ulm), as Directeur de Recherches, and her teaching at the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) in classical Greek philosophy. She is the author of six books dealing with the status of the “image” both in philosophical-theological discourse and in Byzantine pictorial training, and of a thesis on the Aristotelian concept of the “diaphanous” (published in 1997 by Vrin as Du diaphane. Image, milieu, lumière dans la pensée antique et médiévale), essentially concerning the theories of vision and the definition of the visible object. She is now working in the field of Platonic studies, both on Plato Sophist, Phaedros, Timaios and on the posterity of Platonism in early Byzantine philosophy and literature. The central theme of her research is the status of the image in the theories of knowledge and the theological uses of the possibilities that include representations. She has published several studies in reviews as : Archives d’histoire doctrinale et littéraire du Moyen Age (Vrin), Cahiers de Civilisation Médiévale (CNRS-Poitiers), Revue de l’art (CNRS), Journal des Savants (Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres), Dionysius (Dalhousie University), Les Études Philosophiques (P.U.F.), and in collective volumes published by Vrin, H. Champion, Peeters, Hazan, P.U.F., La Différence, Sankt Augustin Academia Verlag, Droz, Ecole Française de Rome etc.
