Julien Devinant is Associate Professor in Philosophy and History of Medicine at Lille University School of Medicine. He received his PhD in Ancient philosophy and Greek philology from Paris-Sorbonne and Humboldt Berlin in 2016 with a dissertation on Galen's approach to psychic disorders. He is also a former student of the École Normale Supérieure (Paris) and holds an agrégation in Philosophy.
He writes on Hellenistic and Roman Philosophy and Medicine, as a historian of philosophy (theories of life, circulation of Aristotelian thought), a classical philologist (critical edition of medical texts) and a historian of sciences (health and disease, medical causality, physiological functions of living beings).
His current research is associated with the Medical and Philosophical Physiologies project at the Leon Robin Centre. It studies the evolution of medical thought and practice from the Hellenistic period onwards, with a particular focus on the natural faculties.
